Facial threads are practically extremely fine sutures that are gradually absorbed by the body. They are inserted under the skin in order to reverse the signs of aging; they do it so well, that thread treatment has earned the title “bloodless facelift” or “facelift without a scalpel”.

Two thread types for different effects
Two thread types are used in the face: PDO and COG. Both are 100% safe and fully biodegradable by the body.

PDO threads (tightening threads)

PDO threads are used to enhance skin tightening through the stimulation of collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid production. They are inserted under the skin in order to create a supportive mesh. They gradually offer tightness, firmness and significant improvement of the texture of the skin.
COG threads (lift threads)

The special characteristic of COG threads are the tiny hooks (barbs) throughout their length. The doctor first inserts them under the skin and then, by pulling them backwards or upwards, an instant lift is caused. In the long term they also enhance collagen production. COG threads are inserted on both sides of the face.

What you will feel during the treatment

Thread application is an easy, safe and effective treatment. During the insertion of the threads into your face, you might feel mild discomfort/pain from the advancement of the threads as well as light pressure, too. Local anesthesia is applied before the doctor starts inserting the threads. That is sufficient to make for painless treatment. In any case, our doctors work perfectly with our patients, to maximize their comfort level.

What you should be cautious about the first days after the treatment

In the first 2-3 days after the treatment, you will have to avoid using makeup and the application of cosmetics. It is also wise to avoid the consumption of hard food, rubbbing your face at the areas where the threads were inserted and pronounced yawn. Finally, prefer to sleep on your back and avoid exposure to intense heat (sauna). Any ecchymosis (bruise) or edema related to the treatment will fully subside within a few days. An arnica or aloe cream will help towards that end.

The effects of thread treatment on the face are both immediate and long-term

That is because their beneficial effects continue for the following months, much longer than it takes them to be absorbed by the body.  

The main problem treated by threads is tissue loosening, which is reflected on the face with:

  • Lowered (droopy) eyebrows
  • “Empty” cheekbones and flat cheeks
  • Intense nasolabial folds (from the nose to the mouth)
  • Deep marionette lines (from the corners of the mouth to the chin)
  • Sagging oval face (jowls) with uneven contour

If you hear the experiences of patients that have tried facelift with threads, you may be surprised with the range of the different answers. Why is it that some are really excited and others incredibly disappointed?

The secret is the plastic surgeon’s experience and honesty! Choosing the right thread, the right spot to insert it in the face, the appropriate way to insert it and the ideal depth into the skin (if inserted too superficially, they will be visible, while if inserted too deeply they may cause injuries)… All these factors determine the success of the effects.

Moreover, not all people are suitable candidates for thread treatment. Those who work out very intensely put more mechanical load on the threads; therefore, they can move or break more easily. Also, with older people or very heavy faces threads are strained more and may not withstand the weight.
