DOUBLE CHIN LIPOSUCTION
What is double chin liposuction

Double chin or jowls are created by fat accumulation in the specific site.

Although extra weight seems to be the obvious cause for double chin, it is not the only one. Age and genes are also two very common causes for jowls under the chin. As the age increases, the skin loses its elasticity and, with the contribution of gravity, it can lead to excess or loose skin, with or without excess fat, which may finally form “jowls”.

Liposuction at the neck to eliminate double chin is one of the most common reasons for consulting a plastic surgeon, for both men and women, as the accumulated fat at the neck alters the contour of the face and the corners of the lower jaw disappear. The procedure is quick, safe and painless; it can even be performed at a doctor’s practice setting.

With double chin liposuction reshaping the contour of the neck and the jaw is achieved, and the face looks much more youthful.

DOUBLE CHIN LIPOSUCTION
How double chin (jowls) liposuction is performed
Double chin liposuction is a simple and short procedure for an experienced plastic surgeon, as it requires local anesthesia, and it is performed in the surgeon’s practice. If required, it can also be performed under conscious sedation or general anesthesia

·        Liposuction is performed with a very thin cannula through one or two small holes of just half a centimeter each, made under the jaw. These holes are so small that no scar is left.

·       Through the holes a solution of local anesthesia (tumescent) is injected, which, apart from eliminating pain during the procedure, at the same time reduces the reduces the possibility of hematoma / bruise.
·       The surgeon, after allowing the solution to act for a few minutes, inserts special cannulas to create some channels and prepare the fat. Then he connects the cannula to a negative pressure device and the suction of fat begins. Throughout the procedure, he checks, visually and by palpation, the uniformity of the tissues, so as to remove the same quantity from all the sites.

·       When the suction is complete the incision is sutures with one suture.

·       The average duration of double chin liposuction is 30 – 60 minutes.

Recovery – Final effect
After the end of double chin liposuction, an elastic bandage is placed that will help the surgical wound heal faster and without complications. The patient should have the bandage all day for one week; for another week they should have it during sleep. In some cases, bruises appear, but they are minor and effectively covered with make-up.

Return to daily engagements is immediate, as it can be done only 3 days after the procedure. The small suture is removed in 10 days. Return to intense activity and workout is recommended after 20 days.

The effects are visible just after the procedure and it is finalized in 4-6 months. The change in the face is impressive and the effects are permanent, as long as the patient does not gain much weight.
DOUBLE CHIN LIPOSUCTION FAQ

After a double chin liposuction, not only laxity is not observed, but, on the contrary, the elasticity of the skin increases. This happens for two reasons: Firstly, because by removing the fat, the length that the skin must cover on the new surface that is created on the neck is bigger. Namely, the curve in the neck is “wider” and, therefore the skin stretches instead of loosening. To understand this, we should think that after the liposuction, and with the application of compression bandaging, the skin will be forced to adhere to the underlying tissues that have remained after the removal of the fat. As the fat has been removed, these tissues are a little further back, thus causing the skin to stretch. The second reason why the skin does not loosen is that we perform superficial liposuction, thus the controlled injury to the lower surface of the skin causes skin firming.

Double chin liposuction is not recommended for patients with severe skin laxity, as it is expected to deteriorate after the fat removal. In such cases, it is recommended that double chin liposuction is combined with neck lift.
